Man attempts to kidnap child in Boylston, police say

    Boylston police on Wednesday arrested a 59-year-old man they say tried to kidnap a student after school.

    The man, David Shays, tried to lure the student into his home, police allege in a press release posted Wednesday night.

    After the student refused, Shays allegedly chased down the student.

    The student, who is younger than 16, gave police a description of the suspect and later identified him, police say.

    Shays was charged with attempted kidnapping, enticing a child under 16 and assault.

    Bail was set at $15,000.

    From the Boylston Police Department's release:  "On Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at approximately 3:33PM, Boylston Police Officers were dispatched to the area of Mill Road for a report of an attempted kidnapping. Responding officers were informed that a male party attempted to lure a juvenile into his home. After the juvenile refused to enter the home the male suspect chased the juvenile down the road. The juvenile was able to give a description of the subject and later made a positive identification of the suspect. The suspect was identified as David Shays, 59 Y/O male, who resides in Boylston.

    Shays was charged with the following:

    • Enticing a Child Under 16
    • Attempt to Commit a Crime (Kidnapping)
    • Assault

    Bail for Shays was set at $15,000, he was booked at the Boylston Police Department and transported to the Worcester Police Department for holding."
