Shrewsbury police rescue 8 from boat sinking on Lake Quinsig

  • SHREWSBURY – Shrewsbury police rescued 8 people Sunday evening after their boat began taking on water on Lake Quinsigamond, according to Shrewsbury Police.

Police said a boater reported that their vessel was sinking.

Officer Chad Chysna, already on patrol aboard the department’s jet ski, quickly located the distressed boat. Officers Mattero and Carrol arrived moments later by boat to assist.

A malfunctioning bilge pump caused the sinking.

All 8 passengers were safely transported to shore without injury, police said. Officers then returned to tow the vessel to the Police Department’s boathouse before it sank.

Sgt. Faucher and Officer Eric Sloan provided support from shore to ensure a safe and efficient rescue.

The boat has since been removed from the water for repairs.

“Excellent work by all involved,” the department said in a social media post Monday morning.
